VALENTINA
Being a succubus sounds glamorous until you realize no one looks at you without imagining you naked. Just once, I’d like to be wooed instead of craved. Is that really too much to ask? Apparently so, because on Halloween, something goes awry, and a perfectly ordinary morning ends with half the town declaring their undying devotion and brawling over me on Main Street.
Even worse?
Alistair Drake shows up. The one vampire in Eternity Falls I actually want to notice me—and the only one who seems completely immune to my charms.
Figures. At least his immunity has one advantage. He can get me somewhere safe while we figure out what the hell is going on. And maybe, while we're at it, I can finally find out whether that infuriatingly proper vampire is immune to me or just exceptionally good at hiding his feelings.
ALISTAIR
I’ve spent centuries learning how to keep my head around supernatural charms. Glamors, compulsions, enchantments—I’ve faced the lot. So when Valentina's powers spontaneously send half of Eternity Falls into a lovesick frenzy, I’m about the only man who can get her to safety without losing my damned mind. Mostly. What Valentina doesn’t seem to understand is that resisting her magic and resisting her are two entirely different matters. I’ve simply had the good sense to keep my hands to myself. Thus far.
Trouble is, Valentina’s had her fill of men who only want one thing from her. She wants flowers. Proper courtship. A fellow who gives a damn about her instead of what she can do for him. And seeing as I’ve been sweet on the woman for years, I figure it’s high time I showed her I’m just the vampire for the job.

VALENTINA
Most people measured their days in cups of coffee. Today, I was measuring mine in marriage proposals. Case in point: it wasn’t even noon yet, and I’d already been proposed to twice. Neither of which, for the record, had been particularly creative or inspiring. I liked to think my standards were fairly reasonable. Was it too much to ask for a ring? A bent knee? Maybe even a shred of romantic effort?
The first had come from a basilisk shifter who’d taken one look at me, flashed the emerald scales along his throat like a horny, reptilian peacock, and informed me our children would be, in his words, gorgeous.
I hadn’t even handed him a menu yet.
The second had come from a vampire who’d spent twenty solid minutes staring hungrily at my jugular, and another ten locked onto my breasts, before solemnly declaring he was deeply invested in my, er, personality. He then capped off his sweeping declaration of love by calling me Valerie.
My name was Valentina.
We’d known each other for fifty years.
Be still my heart.
It was enough to make a succubus wonder if romance was fundamentally dead in Eternity Falls, or if I was just exceptionally unlucky.
